I woke facing the pale blue wall beside my bed. The sun had passed over the house and the room was now dim and quiet. I reached out my hand, touched the cool wall with my fingertips and stroked its smooth surface thoughtfully. Then I remembered with a prickling rush of joy that Adam was in bed beside me. I rolled over to admire him. But the bed was empty. Groaning in disappointment, I pulled the sheets over my head.

‘What’s wrong?’ came a voice not far away

I quickly sat up on my elbows, the sheets falling around my waist, and saw him sitting up nervously (and naked) in my vintage armchair, a book held loosely in one hand. The kiss I planted on his cheek had become a red smudge.

‘Nothing’ I sing, my excitement building again ‘what’re you reading?’

He showed me the book cover. The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock and other collected poems by T.S Eliot. My heart skipped a beat. He’d left the bed to read my favourite poem. Why was he so perfect? He got to his feet and puffed his chest out theatrically and started to read aloud from the book, naked, slowly pacing the floor like an actor upon a stage

‘Let us go then, you and I,

When the evening is spread out against the sky

Like a patient etherized upon a table;

Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,

The muttering retreats

Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels’

‘Stop, stop, stop’ I interrupted him, waving my hands in surrender ‘usually I’d never interrupt a man reading a poem, but you’re no usual man. How can I concentrate on the words when you’re that good looking?’

He glanced down at his own body, then, grinning, slammed the book shut between his hands and tossed it into the armchair. He leapt back on the bed and nuzzled his face into my belly. I laughed with delight. He beamed up at me playfully, his strong arms wrapped around my legs. He let go of my legs and kissed his way up my body until he was kissing my breasts

‘You have such amazing tits’ he whispered, eyes wide as he weighed my breast in his hands. He kissed and licked my nipples until they stiffened, then started plucking them between his lips. I was instantly aroused.

‘You’re so beautiful in this light’ he said tenderly, rising up and stroking my cheek with his knuckles. For such a powerful man his touch was amazingly soft and delicate. Without saying a word, I rolled onto my front and patted my own shoulder. He got the subtle message, climbed on top so he was sitting on my ass, and started massaging my shoulders. I groaned joyously as he worked his way down the length of my back, pressing his palms firmly into my muscles, soothing and arousing me at the same time. When he reached the small of my back, he took his hands off me and I heard the bedside drawer slide open, then the rustle of a foil packet being torn open.
